Day Five - Exploring San Francisco

The Calvert Explorers reached the final stop of their magical journey across the USA with a visit to San Francisco. The boys and girls learned fun facts as they navigated through reading lessons about the city by the bay. As a fun engaging activity this morning, the campers created their very own Golden Gate Bridge; before venturing through Chinatown, Union Square, Lombard Street, and cable car rides. Lunch was a delicious taste of Lo Mein and Fortune Cookies representing Chinatown. The enthusiastic explorers had an amazing week exploring five great cities in the USA. Parents, ask your child what he/she did this morning for a reflection activity about our adventures. Clue: The boys and girls were placed in small groups and their mission was to come up with a charade acting out one of the cities visited. Oh, what a wonderful week! Mrs. Catlin, Mrs. Forrester, Ms. Gentry and Ms. Silberstein thank all of the campers for a fun week! We also thank our three wonderful helpers! Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Day Four - Exploring Santa Fe

The campers had an amazing day exploring Santa Fe today! Everyone enjoyed trying new foods. Wow! Great job, campers! Fish tacos was one of the highlights at lunch. Reading lessons revolved around Santa Fe and learning more about the colorful landscape of the beautiful New Mexico. This afternoon all of the campers crafted their very own Bald Eagle. The boys and girls certainly enjoyed this morning's ice breaker game trying to guess who their friends were posing as being famous people. Today was the last day of crafts; so all of the campers took home their craft bags. Parents, enjoy having a little art show tonight from viewing New York skylines, Chicago bungalow stain glass windows, Mardi Gras masks to stoic Bald Eagles. Tomorrow  the campers are off to the last leg of our Road Trip across the grand USA. San Francisco, here we come!

Day Two - A Day in Chicago

The Calvert explorers returned to camp today with great gusto ready to spent the day in the Windy City. Some of the activities revolved around learning historical facts about Chicago. The 7th Age campers practiced sounding out syllables; while the 8th Agers created ferris wheel story boards. Both the 9th Age and 10th Age campers read diaries of the adventures of several famous people during their time in Chicago. All of the students practiced measurement skills in math; some focusing on area and perimeter skills. The 10th Agers designed playgrounds! Following a lunch of Chicago Bear sliders and savory fries; the campers spent the afternoon creating stain glass windows (similar to Chicago bungalow stain glass windows) and making deep dish pizza. The afternoon game was dodge ball in the Middle School Gym. What a treat for the Lower School campers. We had a splendid day in the Windy City! The campers and teachers will sleep well tonight!
